Notes About Reiki
Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress, provides balance and improves our body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki can be accessed and directed through the energetic pathways in the body of an attuned Reiki practitioner, then released through the hands using gentle touch and/or beaming into the body, mind and personal energy field of recipients.
Mikao Usui discovered and developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things. Now, reiki is used all over the world, including in hospitals and hospices, to complement other forms of health treatments. Through peer-reviewed medical studies, it has been shown that Reiki engages the parasympathetic nervous system. This is also known as our “rest and digest” state, the opposite to our “fight/flight/freeze/fawn” stress response. It can have a noticeable positive impact on many conditions and areas of concern (mental, physical and emotional) without interfering with any other form of treatment or healing modality.
In-Person Reiki Sessions
Come sit by the fireplace in our relaxing recliner or comfortable chairs while we provide healing Reiki energy. You are welcome (and encouraged) to move around and adjust your position at any point to make yourself more comfortable. You are in control here. You are welcome to listen to your own device or we can play some of our music or a meditations, we can talk about anything that’s coming up, we can go through some guided mindfulness exercises or you can even watch videos or catch up on work… whatever you would like. This is your session that you are encouraged to enjoy it in a variety of ways and are welcome to change your mind about as often as you need.
Remote Reiki Sessions
Our Remote Reiki Sessions are available in the comfort of your own home (or wherever you choose to log in from). Although human touch does have it’s own benefits, Reiki itself is equally effective whether delivered hands-on or remotely by a level 2 practitioner or Reiki Master. To get the most out of your Reiki session, we invite you to join us over Zoom where we can incorporate an element of mindfulness and relaxation. We understand though that life can be busy and we are just as happy to connect briefly at the start of the session and then continue sending Reiki while you move on to doing chores, completing work, having a nap, taking a nice relaxing bubble bath or flowing with wherever life takes you. Once we begin, it’s no longer a requirement for you to stay on the phone or Zoom call for the remainder of the session… whatever works for you is great, so long as what you are doing would still be safe if you were to suddenly become very relaxed or experience emotional processing. Remote Reiki Sessions can take place over Zoom, by telephone, or scheduled for a specific time to be sent without direct contact.
Coffee & Reiki on Locke
You are invited to join us for a coffee/beverage at Starbucks coffee shop on Locke Street (or another nearby public location of your choosing). Discreetly receive healing Reiki energy from across the table (or even across the room if you’d like) while we casually chat, play a game, do a puzzle, colour/draw or engage in another activity you like. If you’d prefer, you’re also welcome to bring a friend to join you for this casual Reiki session or just to chat with you while I send you Reiki energy.

Notes About Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the act of paying attention, on purpose, to the current moment. We begin by taking long, deep breaths and focusing on the sensation of our breath entering and leaving our body. We remain connected to our body, our senses and/or our environment using a variety of techniques and activities that can be restful or active. The purpose of Mindfulness is not to clear your mind of all distractions. It’s natural to get distracted. A lot. We don’t need to forcefully push away our thoughts, nor do we continue to allow ourselves to be absorbed in them. We notice when we lose our focus on the present, we acknowledge our thoughts and we gently and non-judgmentally bring ourselves back to the present moment, over and over and over again. Practicing mindfulness is like flexing a muscle that becomes stronger with use. By continuing to practice mindfulness, over time it can become easier and more comfortable to come back to the present moment and to remain in the present moment for longer. This can help us to get out of our heads and into the present moment so we can be more fully engaged and connected in those present moments of our lives that we want to fully experience and remember.
Mindful Moments Sessions:
Your Mindful Moments sessions can look and feel however you’d like. In our first sessions we can begin discussing and practicing numerous mindfulness exercises (chosen intuitively or by request) for brief moments as that mindfulness muscle grows. We can explore and discuss a variety of mindfulness exercises such as mindful movement, breathing exercises, musical meditations, grounding with the 5 senses, mindfulness of current thoughts, mindfulness of emotions, gratitude practices, observe & describe, creative exercises, playful exercises, emotional expression, positive affirmations, self validation and many more. We can skip, repeat, lengthen or adjust any exercise at any time. If you have another idea of what you might like to do or if you would like a longer or specific kind of mindfulness exercise, we can make that happen.
Reiki-Supported Open Chats
About Reiki-Supported Open Chats
These are compassionate, non-judgmental, supportive and confidential conversations during which Reiki energy is used to open and balance the throat Chakra, supporting the flow, ease and comfort of speaking openly.
The throat Chakra is responsible for communication, self-expression, and the ability to speak our personal truths. When the throat Chakra becomes blocked or unbalanced, we may experience difficulties with communicating effectively by being overly critical of ourselves or others, being uncomfortable with speaking our personal truths, having a harder time expressing our thoughts/feeling, being anxious about saying things, experiencing outbursts of emotion, and/or avoiding open, honest, emotional conversations.
During our Open Chats, Reiki energy is directed into the throat Chakra (usually without physical contact) while the client(s) sit by the fireplace and/or salt lamps in our relaxing recliner or comfortable chairs. By rebalancing the throat Chakra (as well as supporting the entire system), we can help clients to open up, speak their personal truths, more comfortably talk about hard things, communicate more effectively and/or reduce judgement/criticism of self and others. These effects will often remain long after the Reiki session is over and may completely clear blockages after only a few sessions.
Open Chats are facilitated by an intuitive, kind, compassionate and empathetic Reiki Practitioner who has lived experience with life challenges and Mental Health recovery. In addition to the throat Chakra healing, we can provide a listening ear, encouragement, validation, support and a quiet, safer space to express yourself openly without judgement.
Sometimes, the best thing we can do for a problem or situation is first to just speak about it out loud. Naming or talking about something can help diminish its power over us to gain better clarity and/or reduce emotional tension.
What to Talk About
Pretty much anything that comes up! Get whatever you need to off your chest, talk through problems or difficult situations in your life, practice speaking exercises to prepare for conversations outside of our session, or even request our silent energetic support while you speak into the void without our attention or responses.
Do you need to vent and express your emotions in a safer space about whatever is going on in your life?
Do you need a shoulder to cry on? Do you need to express your frustration with your boss, co-workers, partner, children or friends? Do you need to tell someone about something you can’t tell others right now so you can celebrate it, release it or feel all of the feels about it? Are you struggling with mental health challenges and need to speak to someone who’s been there and gets it? Would you like support while navigating effective coping skills or community resources? Are you experiencing shame or guilt about something you haven’t been able to admit to anyone? Are you sick of talking to people who are dismissive or judgemental, make everything about them or think they know what’s best for you? We get that and we’re here for you, non-judgmentally and confidentially.
We won’t ever tell you what you “should” do or even give unsolicited suggestions. We’re just here to listen and support open communication, not to judge anything or give advice. We don’t know what’s best for you… Nobody does but you. We’re just here to provide healing energy, to hold space and to support you and your system while you lead your life based on your own personal needs, values, goals, abilities and beliefs.
Learn about and be “attuned” to Reiki (connected to Reiki’s Source so you can access it for self-care) with a certified Reiki Master. We will discuss what Reiki is, its history, how it can be used and what to expect from a Reiki attunement. We will discuss and practice cleansing our personal energy fields, Reiki rituals, initiating Reiki for self-care, the various hand positions for self-healing and the importance of mindfulness and informed consent. This discussion can take place in-person or remotely over Zoom.
If you choose to proceed, we will meet in person to perform the Reiki Attunement ceremony. This usually only takes about 10-15 minutes. This can be completed right after our in-person discussion or can be booked separately.
